Samaritan’s Purse Lake Charles 2020

Hello friend’s! Here is a recap on what’s going on in my life. As you know Gap year 2020 is underway. We are almost 2 months in! Crazy how fast time moves. The participants have been hungry to learn and grow. Since we have had them couped up since Sept 2. We got the chance to send everyone to help out in Louisiana. Samaritan’s Purse has been working in Louisiana ever since hurricane Laura hit. For the last few weeks I have had the opportunity to help with some relief. Samaritan’s Purse made a video that I want to share with you guys, I’m also in it 😉

I’m currently in Lake Charles right now and wow this place has really been destroyed. I have been all over the world and seen so much poverty and need. But I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s almost as if every single home within a 30 mile radius has been affected. There are piles of trash much taller than me, on almost every street corner. These trash piles are the remains of people’s homes. There lives are accumulated in those piles. Some home owners I met, had lived in there homes 30-40 years. They had so many memories thrown out on the streets. The other day I had to ask a home owner what was considered trash and what was worth keeping in a storage container. As I went through there home, I just wondered how I would feel if this was my home. If I had a family and decades of memories built inside. I can’t think of words to describe it. In that same house I met Sherman. He was one of the home owners. He was telling me how he used to work right down the street. But he was laid off because of Covid. He said he just didn’t know what he was going to do. He doesn’t have house insurance and the city says the home is condemned. That means know one can live there. He has has lost it all and doesn’t know where help will come from. As he is telling me all this, I looked at his shirt. It said, “Y’all need Jesus.” I pointed at his shirt to remind him. He is not alone and he is not forgotten. There is a King above all king’s, His name is Jesus. There was no way that hope could ever be lost with Him around. He pounded his chest and pointed up and said your right. I am so blessed and grateful that I got to be there. Simply to clean his house and remind him of who God is. I know Sherman will be fine. God will take care of him. Homes can be rebuilt, things can be replaced, but that hope that comes from Jesus is everlasting!

Please pray for the people of Lake Charles Louisiana. There are so many who need hope and a miracle. Love you guys, may God bless you this day.
