It’s been around 1 month since I got back to the states. Life back home is awesome and different. I often think back to the hot and rough travel days, as my team and I cram into a small car or some other wheeled vehicle. Life here at home just doesn’t look like that. But I’ve learned that it really doesn’t matter whether I’m in the bush of Africa or getting some groceries at the store. The good news of Jesus is the same.
I was walking to the bus station in my home town and I noticed a man in a wheelchair. He was missing his left leg and my first thought was wow this guy is blessed to have such an awesome wheelchair. The chair had a motor and could get him around pretty easily. I’ve seen people from all over the world who are not as fortunate. They don’t have a wheelchair, much less one that has a motor. Instead they have to crawl or just drag themselves using there hands. As I walked by the man I said hello, he replied hi how are you? I told him I was good and asked him the same question. He said oh don’t ask me that. Once he said that I stopped walking and approached him. I asked him, why not what’s going on? He told me life had been hell ever since he lost his leg about a year ago. He said the only thing keeping him from taking his life was Jesus. And he was getting farther and farther away from Him. I told him what I thought about his chair and how blessed he was to have that. We talked about our lives together and whenever he would speak a lie about his worth I would remind Him who Jesus says he is. After some tears I was able to pray for him, I could feel this man was being comforted by God in that moment. He told me that he had been praying to God to send him some help because he was ready to take his life. It just so happened that I was to be that help. I’m constantly in awe of how great and loving God is. God knew I would walk by that man that day and ask him how his day was and that’s all it took to bring love, life and healing.
As you are out and about today ask yourself who could use some life. We all need encouragement, or maybe an ear to talk to, or just some love.
